Our friends at Scottish Book Trust run a brilliant scheme for teenagers looking to become creative writers. What’s Your Story? is Scotland’s only national level narrative storytelling development programme which focuses on engaging and supporting teens based on their enthusiasm for literature (however they define it!) rather than pre-existing talent. Wherever teens are in Scotland, whatever their background, if they’re interested in learning more, experiencing more, and building more as young creators, then this opportunity is for them.
The teen development programme is for 14-17 year olds who want to enhance their connection to narrative storytelling. They could be keen on creating anything – from YouTube videos, to a novel, to a screenplay, to comic books, to illustrations, to videogames, to a stage script, to stand-up comedy, to poetry, to podcasts and everything in-between.
So if you work with or know a teenager resident in Scotland who’d be interested in joining a community of their fellow story-making teens and accessing world-class development opportunities such as professional mentoring, a creative retreat, and trips to the “behind the scenes” of Scotland’s literary world, get them looking into What’s Your Story?
What’s Your Story? is free to access and all expenses paid (whether you’re from Orkney or Edinburgh, it’s free to take part and Scottish Book Trust support participants to ensure equitable and easy access to everything WYS offers).
Scottish Book Trust are determined that the 7 teen “Rookies” selected for 2017-18 are able to represent as broad a cross-section of Scotland’s young writers & illustrators as possible.
Here's a blog from one of this year’s Rookies encouraging her peers to apply for the programme: http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/blog/writing/2017/10/7-reasons-for-teens-to-apply-for-whats-your-story
