Doug and I have been looking for ways to make our courses more accessible. With that in mind, we've just launched a new award for writers on tight budgets: the Skriva Novelist Scholarship. We're offering a place on one of the 6-week Novel Writing courses, taught by myself, to the winner of the award. The award is open to writers who have not previously had a novel published, and who would otherwise struggle to pay for one of our courses.
If you win the award, you'll get 6 weeks of workshops at Skriva Writing School's studio in the West End of Edinburgh (for a map, please check out our contact page - we're 5 minutes walk from Haymarket Station). Each workshop is 1.5 hours, and takes place every Wednesday afternoon from 1.30-3.00pm, or every Thursday evening from 6.00-7.30pm. We combine an hour of group and tutor feedback on the novels-in-progress with half an hour of focused tuition on a specific technical area of novel writing. The course starts on Wednesday 30th September / Thursday 1st October. Alternatively, you may be accommodated in the next course, beginning Wednesday 4th / Thursday 5th November: we'll discuss times and dates with the winner.
How To Apply:
Please send us a two-page sample of your creative writing: this should be prose fiction :) The application form contains full guidelines. You can download it here. Please don't forget to tick the box to confirm your eligibility for the award! Finally, send your application and your document to us at firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject 'Skriva Novelist Scholarship', no later than 5pm Friday 4th September. Good luck!
